Mehergarh civilization
The oldest rural civilization in India is the Mehergarh civilization. Mehergarh civilization is the Neolithic civilization.

1. The Mehergarh civilization dates back to around 6000 BC.
2. French archaeologist Jean-Franois Jarrez discovered ancient traces of the Mehergarh civilization in 1964 in the
Indus Valley west of present-day Balochistan, Pakistan.
3. The important archeological sites of Mehergarh civilization are Nausera, Rana, Ghundai, Kiligul, Kachchibeg,
Kulli, etc.
4. According to modern historians, the Harappan civilization was an evolution of the Mehergarh civilization.
5. The people of Mehergarh used sun-dried clay bricks to build their houses.
- The livelihood of the inhabitants of Mehergarh was animal husbandry, hunting, agriculture and trade. There were agricultural crops produced - wheat, barley, cotton, dates etc.
